Compostable Items

 YES, Please!

 

  • Fruits and veggies- raw and cooked, all parts including seeds. A little oil is OK.

  • Breads, pastries, crackers, dry cereal, rice, pasta, cookies, cakesother grains. A little oil is OK.

  • Coffee grinds and paper filters

  • Tea (loose and bags…no staples or synthetic bags) 

  • Eggshells

  • Nuts, nutshells

  • Beans, legumes. A little oil is OK.

  • Paper products: all paper (white or colored, not shiny, and ripped up/ shredded) paper bags, napkins, paper towels, plates, all “compostable” products except utensils, (no shiny paper or chemicals)

  • Newspaper (no shiny paper, ripped up)

  • Cardboard (Paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, cardboard boxes, ripped up) 

  • Pizza boxes (ripped up)

  • Fireplace ash (untreated wood ash only)

  • Dryer lint

  • Hair / pet fur

  • Cut flowers

  • Potting soil

  • Yard waste (leaves, grass/garden clippings, small wood pieces, etc.)

  • Animal products: meat, fish, bones, dairy, butter, excrement, etc.

  • No grease or oil

  • Diseased or chemically treated plants/ wood

  • Weeds/ invasive plants

  • “Compostable” utensils

  • Produce stickers, twist ties or rubber bands

  • Vacuum debris- has synthetic fibers and small plastics.
